Newcastle Basketball, Newcastle Council and the NSW Government are proposing to construct a six storey Basketball Stadium on Wallarah Oval and Blackley Oval.
Whilst there is no doubt there is a need for a new basketball stadium, this is NOT an appropriate site.

Wallarah Oval 1, Wallarah Oval 2 and Blackley Oval are located in the residential area of New Lambton, New South Wales.
The ovals are highly valued green space that are used by the local community constantly for numerous activities.
They are the home grounds of local soccer and cricket teams who have used the grounds for many years.
Lambton High School is adjacent to the fields and uses the fields daily as play space during lunch and recess and for sporting activities such as cross country, soccer, cricket, PE lessons and as an emergency evacuation assembly point.
